Rosie the Riveter Memorial, at the former site of Kaiser Shipyard #2
Richmond's shoreline parks have spurred interest in an area which had languished since the WW II shipbuilding era.
Today the Bay Trail connects the shoreline parks, which feature sculptural exhibits interpreting the WW II shipbuilding era as part of the Rosie The Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park. (See map below.)

This is an important wintering and stopover site for numerous migrating shorebirds and waterfowl, and we have many, varied summer resident birds as well. This guide is produced with support from Trails for Richmond Action Committee, Richmond Convention & Visitors Bureau, Richmond Museum of History, Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park and Rivers, Trails & Conservation Assistance Program of the National Park Service.

Marina Bay Park is the site of the Rosie The Riveter Memorial (above), whose length represents that of the liberty ships built here during WW II.

Lucretia Edwards Park honors the contributions made by all Bay Area shipyards during WW II. Bootprints underfoot align visitors toward Bay Area shipyards, and low seating walls are located on axis with other significant shipyards.
Shimada Friendship Park celebrates Richmond‘s friendship with its sister city of Shimada in Japan. The three large travertine stones that comprise the central monument signify friendship and symbolize the relationship between heaven, earth and humankind.
Barbara & Jay Vincent Park features the “Shipyard Stories” sculpture (shown on the right), presenting historic photographs and oral histories that describe common experiences for shipyard workers.
